Theoretical Stage:
Children will learn about:
- the history of bread
- the journey from sowing to eating
- traditional farming tools
- different types of bread
- various grains and their nutritional value
This stage includes discussion, storytelling, video presentations, songs, and hands-on demonstrations with seeds, tools, and more.
Hands-on activities:
Dressed in aprons and little baker hats, children will:
- watch the mill in action, grinding grain
- knead dough in small mixing bowls
- shape their own bread rolls and place them in the pinakoti (a traditional wooden tray)
The oven is lit. The bread is baked, and the children get to taste their own creations!
The theoretical and experiential stages alternate and complement each other, creating a rich, engaging learning experience.
Optional Extension:
A visit to the Mesotopos Women’s Agrotourism Cooperative, where bread is made using more modern equipment, and to the Mesotopos Folklore Museum, which houses a wide collection of traditional agricultural tools.
