Theoretical stage:
The children will revisit the basic forms of energy, focusing on the two main types: potential and kinetic.
They’ll begin to understand how energy transforms from one form into another.
They’ll also learn about renewable energy sources and how they differ from non-renewable ones.
Hands-On Activities:
- Through observing the operation of the mill, children will see potential energy transforming into kinetic energy in action
- At the water channel (kolethra), they’ll explore how elevation creates gravitational potential energy
- They’ll learn about solar panels and understand their purpose and how they convert sunlight into usable energy
- They’ll explore how energy transformations are essential in meeting human needs
Extension Activity:
A visit to the remains of other traditional mills, helping children understand how elevation differences were crucial for maintaining potential energy and powering the mills.
